                                                                          August 2010

Dear Parent & Guardians,

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year!  As we prepare for the new school year, I would like to share with you that the mission of the Wolcott Public Schools is to develop in each student the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become a productive member of the community and a contributing member of society.  The philosophy of the Wolcott Public Schools is to set high standards of student achievement and to create a positive learning environment for students.  This philosophy is embedded in the school culture of the Wolcott community and is evident in three core beliefs:

  • Maximize student learning and set high expectations for all
  • Utilize literacy skills as the foundation of student achievement
  • Integrate technology into the classroom as a tool for learning

The Wolcott Public Schools continues to provide our children with high quality teachers, a rich learning environment, up-to-date technology, and high expectations for all students and staff.  This caring and dedicated reputation of the Wolcott Public Schools and its staff is well deserved.

The recently released state achievement scores from the Connecticut Mastery Tests (CMT) and the Connecticut Academic Performance Tests (CAPT) show the high level standards of learning in Wolcott.  These scores reached a new level of excellence, particularly at Wolcott High School and Tyrrell Middle School.  These assessments measure our success with student learning in Wolcott and we can all be proud of this team effort.

I hope you all enjoy the remaining days of your vacation and I look forward to working with you to provide your children with the best educational experience.  Thank you for your support and commitment to our Wolcott students.
