The Wolcott High School Library/Media Center’s Philosophy
Wolcott High School’s Library Media program reflects the philosophy of the school in general. Its responsibility is to make available to all students materials in all curricular areas which will help them achieve knowledge, maturity, critical judgment and appreciation of written as well as non written materials. These materials are selected with consideration of diversity of skills, abilities and interests of the student population as well as the relation of the material to the curricula of the school. All materials are organized by standard library procedures so they can be readily found and used.
The Wolcott High School Library/Media Center has the responsibility of working with teachers and administrators to provide those services and tools which will enrich and supplement all phases of the curriculum. The Wolcott High School Library/Media Center is a service organization, a teaching agency and a resource center where teachers and students may make free use of all the varied materials which are the records of man’s thoughts and achievements.
The Wolcott High School Library/Media Center’s mission is to:
Provide all students with access to materials in curricular areas which will enhance appreciation, knowledge and critical judgment of the school curricula.
Provide all students with access to non printed materials in curricular areas to account for different student modalities.
To provide the faculty and staff the necessary training and instruction that permits them to effectively and efficiently use all available forms of instructional materials to enhance and support the school curricula.
To provide the programs, guidelines and policies that allow the entire school community to use the Wolcott High School Library/Media Center in a manner that is conducive to academic achievement, enrichment and personal growth and development.
