Core Standards
As many of you have been hearing the term Common Core State Standards, we felt that it would be beneficial to provide a list of resources for you to navigate and explore to learn more about this new initiative. The collection of information we put together on this site will provide you an overview of the new standards, a summary of the major shifts in English Language Arts and Mathematics instruction, and an outline of the new Smarter Balance Assessment tool.
In essence, the CCSS are fewer but higher and clearer standards in English Language Arts (ELA)/Literacy and Mathematics, which are comparable across states and progressively aligned with what students need to know in order to be ready for college and career and because of their focus and pacing, they preemptively reduce the need for later remediation in Literacy and Math. The CCSS will not only improve what your kids learn but how they learn, with a focus on critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication skills. Connecticut is raising the bar for teaching and learning by implementing the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in all schools.
As new information is released from the state, we will update the available resources on this page, so please feel free to check back often. Thank you and we appreciate your support as we continue our dedication to offering our students the best education possible.
